Welcome to Fraternity & Sorority Life

Fraternities and sororities are values-based organizations that focus on the development of leadership, scholarship, friendship and service among their members. Since the founding of the first fraternity in 1776, hundreds of Greek-lettered organizations have been established across college campuses in North America, the Caribbean and beyond.

A vital part of the student experience at the University of Oregon (UO), the fraternity and sorority community has existed since 1900 when Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded. This rich tradition of excellence continues today with almost 2,700 students involved in 31 fraternities and sororities. Currently, the fraternity and sorority community comprises 13% of the overall student body. Thanks to a growing student population and elevated student body, expansion within Greek-lettered organizations is continual.

Student life outside the classroom is an intergral component of the college experience. Involvement not only makes a large campus feel smaller, it also helps promote academic and personal success. Sororoites and fraternities are just one way to get involved at the UO. The Oregon Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) community strives to be values-based with commitments to our four pillars of development of leadership, intellectual advancement, and service. If you are not currently a member, we hope you will explore the possibility of what our lifetime membership has to offer.

Fraternity & Sorority Life at the University of Oregon is a partnership between the Office of the Dean of Students and the Holden Center. FSL offers and coordinates a variety of programs, activities, and services that are designed to ensure the quality education and social experience for UO fraternity and sorority members. Services and resources are proved to chapter officers, chapter members, alumni, and advisers in addition to the Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils, Inter/National Headquarters representatives, alumni, community offices and the parents of fraternity and sorority members and potential members.

What is LeaderShape?

Put on by the Holden Center, LeaderShape is a six day program of self-discovery and learning which expand participants’ understanding of leadership while building practical abilities. It is an intensive 12-hour-a-day experience that is highly energizing and thoroughly enjoyable! The Holden Center strongly believes that the LeaderShape experience provides the most comprehensive leadership curriculum and experience for college students in the country.

What Will Participants Learn?
Participants will learn how to:
- Create a Powerful Vision
- Build Successful Teams
- Implement Action Plans
- Evaluate Personal Strengths and Challenges
- Experience the Dynamics of Group Problem-solving
- Communicate with Care and Impact
- Utilize Ethics and Values in Decision-making

08-27-2012: Come and Unpack the Quack!

This is a great way to welcome new Ducks and we hope you join us for Unpack the Quack!

On Thursday, September 20, nearly 4,200 students will move in to the residence halls and begin their UO experience. We hope to have faculty and staff, along with alumni and current students, serve as ambassadors by greeting our new students and their families, answering their questions about the university, and maybe even helping carry a box or two. This is also a great opportunity to help new families and students learn about your department and appreciate the tremendous commitment to students that distinguishes the UO.

We understand that this is a busy time of year across campus. Whether you can drop in for one hour, or sign up for a 2.5-hour shift, we would love to see you on September 20.
